An Exploration of My City | Brooklyn Lifestyle Photographer

Who says you can’t shoot in full sun?!

I spent the entire morning and early afternoon hanging out with my old high school friends and exploring Brooklyn. It was brilliant! I’ve discovered new areas and secret locations that I just have to visit again. One stop we made was at Jane’s Carousel in Brooklyn Bridge Park. I am in love with this carousel. It open in 2011 after a lengthy restoration by artist Jane Walentas. It sits on the water between the Brooklyn and Manhattan bridges and it boasts a marvelous view. The carousel is in-cased in a glass structure that can open on all sides; perfect for a brilliant day.

We also came across a decorated piano in the middle of the park. I found out it’s an art installation called Sing for Hope. Every year, this organization places pianos around the city where anyone can have a play. Each piano is artistically designed and placed around the 5 boroughs. When the installation is over, all the pianos are donated to underprivileged local schools, healthcare facilities, and community organizations. But it doesn’t stop there. The organization continues to provide musical education and workshops year-round.

Don’t be afraid to get out and explore your city or town. You may be surprised by what you find. I know I was.
